Thailand/Malaysia Summer Travels

We had the privilege of travelling to a very different part of the world this summer – Southeast Asia. The main reason for being there was for our agency’s biannual conference, Refresh. After the conference we spent some time in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for vacation. This was everyone’s first time in Asia (outside of me, Selina) and it’s safe to say that we loved it! Below are tons of photos of the various things we experienced. We are humbled by the joy of travelling the world and being exposed to other cultures. This trip was especially memorable as our kids are developing a love for travel and did so well trying lots of new foods, rolling with all the activities and handling our longest air travel to date like champs!

Our little travelers!
First stop: Krabi resort in Krabi, Thailand for the Avant Refresh Conference.
Our resort was on the Andaman Sea
SO much green!!!
Adam and a friend got to take a hike one morning

Midway through the week the conference had an excursion day. We were able to spend a morning walking with, feeding and bathing some elephants! It was a very memorable experience.

Refresh was such a sweet time of fellowship with other international workers, worshipping, learning and making memories together.

The volunteers who came to run the kid’s program did such an amazing job!

After Thailand we jumped over to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, splitting our time between two AirBnBs in different parts of the city. The first was in the heart of the city (see first photo below looking out from a balcony in the apartment building we were in) which allowed for easy travel to many of the sights and attractions we wanted to see and do.

Some of which included…

PETRONAS TOWERS (and spalsh park)

Petronas Towers
Petronas Splash Park

BATU CAVES

PARKS, Botanical Garden, Malls, and Markets

Kuala Lumpur was a neat mix of modern city and nature – for example, this mini rain forest with skyscrapers in the background.
The Botanical Gardens were so beautiful and peaceful!

SO MUCH WONDERFUL FOOD and coffee. Malaysia is a mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian so those cuisines were especially plentiful and we got to spend time in Chinatown, Little India and various food markets. We also loved that food was SO cheap! We could get most local foods (think anything from SE Asia) for around $2 to $3 for a full adult meal. It almost felt wrong to be getting really delicious Green Curry or Pad Thai for less than $2.50. We still did it though. A lot.

Our second AirBnB was more outside the city and allowed for a more restful pace. The room transformed into a playground certainly helped!

And we were a two minute walk from Farm In The City, an incredible interactive zoo/farm. This was one of the highlights of the whole trip for each of us!

Capybaras loved Evie

Our final stop was a long layover (about 35 hours) in Istanbul, Turkey which gave us a small taste of the country. It made for an exhausting journey home, but was totally worth it!!

Because of the time difference, sleeping in was difficult. Adam and Ebba went for a 5am stroll and caught the sunrise- Istanbul is a beautiful city!
We got to take an amazing boat tour

We are so incredibly thankful for this journey! Thanks for taking the time to look through our travel photos 🙂

Evie repping her Turkish Airline swag – we had such a great experience with them!
